Local table tennis player John Wright will represent Victoria in the Australian National Veteran’s Championships in early October.
Following a string of successful tournaments around Victoria John was selected to represent the 30s A-Team in both singles and doubles at the national championships to be held in Mandurah, Western Australia from October 7 to 14.
This will be the first national championships for John who will pair up with Rod Kempton of Melbourne in the doubles.
“I am really looking forward to it. This was the first time I have tried out for the state team,” John said.
“I thought I had a chance to make the B team but it was a pleasant surprise to be selected in the A side.”
John will be the first veteran from the Yarrawonga Mulwala Table Tennis Association to play in a national championship.
The club has been represented nationally on a junior level, more recently with Amber Gower who travelled to the Junior National Championships in Tasmania earlier this year.
John, whom is the junior coordinator at the association, said there are some promising juniors at the club which boasts 64 adult members and 30 junior members ranging from the ages of 8 through to 85.
John thanked all those sponsors who have assisted the club and its players and also thanked his parents Helen and Bruce for their support.
Any businesses wishing to sponsor the club or assist John to go to WA can contact the secretary Helen Wright on 0408 485 630.
