Around the Greens

Wednesday bowls had really good turnout of 28 bowlers - the club is now seeing a few northern travels making their way back home.
There were 4 two game winners .Greeting the judge were Bob Evans and Betty Richmond with a + 27.
Runners-up with a score of +16 were Ian Currie and a visitor from Strathmore Kevin Parks,with the side of Rob Lidgerwood and Peter Richmond going down by a massive margin of -30 the jackpot looked pretty safe, not to be because Les Balfour and Evan James got the chocolates.  
With a beautiful day on Friday the club had 24 bowlers grace the greens, with 3 two game winners and with a good score of +9 the winning team was Marcia McGrillen and Neville Coleman.
Runners-up were Peter Bellis and Barbie Verbunt and the jackpot also went off to Rob Hummel and Hans Lang.
On Sunday the club had 70 members attending the opening of the green, with the new Ovens and Murray Vice President Laureen Smith doing the honours.
With our only bowls life member Ben Nowells rolling the jack, then two champions Robyn Moore and Andy LeFevre delivered a bowl each and then the games began.
After 2 games, one with 8 ends and the other with 6 ends, members then proceeded to head inside for afternoon tea, prizes were given to the best lead, second  and skip.
The club would like to thank all the sponsors who donated the prizes.
Kerry Kinnane then informed  the members that from this Tuesday from 3.30pm Anne Miles and Laureen Smith will be setting out drills for all club bowlers ,this is a great opportunity for all to improve skills.
Also, the club handed out a questionnaire for the general committee, match committee and selectors ,please answer these questions and return to the club as soon as possible(putting your names is optional), you can hand them in at the front receptionist or in a box in the bowls office.  Last of all the committee would like to thank Cathy Spinks, Carolyn Boston, Peter Lidgerwood, Shirly and Rob Hummel, Evan and Edna James and Robyn Balfour for all their hard work on opening day.

ClubMulwala Indoor Bowls
On August 21 the number of bowlers playing allowed members to play 9 bowl triples.
The winners with 2 wins were Wilf Owen (s), Fran Smith and Geoff Charlwood and 31 points.
Second with a win and a loss were Tricia Murphy (s), Phyllis Novotny and Sue Stillard with 23 points. Third was decided by fanning the cards - Val Bryce (s), Gwen Owen and Joan Wilson’s card was chosen.
Thursday, August 24 saw 30 bowlers on the mats. There were 2 x 2 game winners with Wilf Owen (s), Annie King, Glenyce Willox and Joan Wilson  scoring 35 points coming first. Second with 34 points were Jeanette Davies (s), Jill Carr, Gwen Owen and Bev Tindale.
The lucky winners of the fan the cards for third were Trish Murphy (s), Barb Eberle, Sue Stillard and Bella with 8 points.
Remember the club’s Chinese Night on Thursday, September 7. The treasurer would appreciate money as soon as possible.

Club Mulwala Outdoor Bowls
Another good week for bowls, the greens are in wonderful condition leading into the coming season, they are a great credit to greenkeeper Ged.
Tuesday Social was played in wonderful sunshine with the numbers growing as the weather warms up.
Winners on the day were Col Leeworthy and Peter Seymour, runners-up were Pam dodman and Jean Wheeler.
The Jackpot was won by Doug Chessum and Jennifer Mockett.
Sunday was the club’s Opening Day following the rolling of the kitty by current ladies club champion Laureen Smith, and the first bowl by Men’s club champion Albert (Dodi) Dodman, Laureen in her capacity as Vice President of Ovens and murray Bowls officially opened the green for the 2017/2018 season.
Players then took to the green in fine but rather fresh conditions, there were some great bowls played with varying outcomes, however results were chosen with a fanning of the cards winners were: Malcolm Miller, Greg Donohue, and Arthur Cassidy, runners-up were Doug Chessum, Laurie leary, and Vince Keenan.
Last place went to Albert (Dodi) Dodman, Casper Dekker, and Russell Cook.
Winter Social bowls is now over with the new season in full flow, times have changed please check the noticeboard regularly to ensure you do not miss out on any of the many days on which social and club events are on.
Reminder: Tuesday Social has moved to a 10am start with names to be in no later than 8.30am on the day.
Sunday Social remains at 12.30pm with names to be in by 11am on the day.
The club is still wanting new members to join us be they experienced bowlers or novices all are welcome to come and join in the fun.
