Just five years ago Jake Thompson was potting the odd ball and now his highest break in competition is 50, he has been crowned the Australian champion and is now Victorian champion for the fifth time.
Jake attends Yarrawonga College P-12 and works part time at IGA.
Proud parents Lisa and Darren Thompson have supported him throughout the whole journey and couldn’t be more thrilled about his latest title; so much in fact, they are installing a full size snooker table in their new home.
Jake played a round robin of five players to reach the finals last weekend and defeated Mark Fridman from Melbourne in the final best of five frames 3-1.
Yarrawonga is fast becoming well known on the snooker circuit thanks to local players.
Not only does Australia’s number one ranked player Adrian Ridley live locally, a total of four junior players are doing well in the competitions.
Mason Turner, Angus McMillan and Jack Bassett, along with Jake, are all names to watch out for in the future.
The next tournament for Jake and the boys will be the Australian Junior Championship held in Adelaide from July 4 to 9.
